
David Jewell

Mr. David Jewell served as the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer at Cleveland State University from 2021 to 2024. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of business and financial operations for the university, including budgeting, planning, treasury management, capital projects, and business affairs. He played a central role in advancing CSU’s institutional strategy and resource allocation through the “CSU 2.0” plan and provided financial leadership during a period of operational transformation and modernization.
Previously, Mr. Jewell served in multiple senior finance positions at the University of Wyoming, including Deputy Vice President for Finance, Associate Vice President for Financial Affairs, and Associate Vice President for Budget and Institutional Planning. In these roles, he was responsible for the university’s budget and planning operations, capital financing, treasury management, and administrative financial services. He also led the implementation of modern cloud-based enterprise systems across finance, human resources, and supply chain operations, and oversaw restructuring of the university’s debt portfolio, resulting in significant savings and improved liquidity.
Before joining the University of Wyoming, he was a consultant with Huron Consulting Group, where he advised leading U.S. and international universities on financial strategy, resource allocation, and process improvement. He began his career at Vanderbilt University, where he held a series of progressively responsible financial management roles in academic affairs and administration, including financial leadership for Vanderbilt Law School and service in the Office of the Provost.
Mr. Jewell earned a bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development and an MBA in strategy and finance from Vanderbilt University.
